Civics Education: Building Informed Citizens
Civics education in America is in crisis due to inconsistent state requirements, and a shift toward STEM subjects. However, robust civic knowledge remains an absolute prerequisite for self-government. At Our American Party we envision an America where John Adams’ standard, wisdom, knowledge, and virtue diffused among the people, is not just an aspiration but a living reality. A country where every student and voter has genuine access to the information Thomas Jefferson believed was the foundation of liberty, and where being informed is treated as a duty we owe each other. “Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government…” (Thomas Jefferson, 1788).
